The Forum Cinema is a popular strand of our activity, and our audience has enjoyed a wide variety of films. Our aim is to make a ‘trip to the movies’ an attractive – no, irresistible – part of the social scene in Northallerton and the villages around. Our main programme takes place on Fridays, Saturdays and sundays, when other events are not being held on those days. In addition we provide further showings during school holidsay periods, and for certain more popular films. Our prices are very competitive and the quality of our digital cinema equipment is hard to match. We have a loyalty scheme - see 10 films - and get the 11th for £1.
Thursdays are a good day to catch one of the wide range of special events streamed from live shows, such as those provided by National Theatre Live, The Royal Opera House, as well as a number of one - off events. These come to us via our satellite link. This programme gives us top-class professional plays direct from the National Theatre and other venues, with the added bonus of a number of different cameras (for close-ups etc.) making the experience as intimate and even more compelling than a seat in the theatre.
Our aim is to provide a balanced programme of events under the Forum banner; that is events organised by ourselves rather than by the many different groups who hire the Forum for their own productions. You will see there is a good selection of these events coming up and we see this developing and growing over the years to cover new kinds of event attracting new audiences. Suggestions are always welcome!
Since 2012 we have been able to expand the range of activities available to the community, details of which are included elsewhere on the website. Many local performing groups hire the Forum for their performances. An important source of income comes from those individuals and groups hiring our rooms or the main hall, and this makes the Forum the venue of choice for dozens of activities: birthday parties, weddings, dance tuition, modern language classes, pantomimes, musicals and plays, bowls, badminton, boxing……you name it, the Forum will probably give you that opportunity. If you are interested in running an activity at the Forum, we will do our best to help you do it... just get in touch!
In the period since 2012 we have been able to make some improvements in the building and facilities, and we have plans to continue this programme into the future. For example during 2016 we have been able to improve the ventilation and cooling in the main hall, something our customers have been requesting for some time.
At the heart of the Forum, its facilities and events, you find the people of Northallerton and this part of North Yorkshire. We have a very small staff team, so your contribution as volunteers is absolutely essential to our operations, and as customers you bring in the income necessary for success. We would like everyone in the area to know we are here, know what they can do here, and come along and have fun with us. We also welcome feedback on what we do, and on any ideas to expand our offering.
