SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL - CRASH BANG WALLOP

SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL - CRASH BANG WALLOP

Let Crash Bang Wallop Youth Theatre take you on a magical mystery tour of the vibrant and fantastical world of Dr.Seuss! The Cat in the Hat will introduce you to the colourful inhabitants of the Jungle of Nool; Gertrude McFuzz, a plain little bird with an inferiority complex; Amayzing Mayzie La Bird, who could not be more different; a boy called Jojo, who’s “Thinks take him to places no one has been”, and Horton the Elephant, kind, gentle and loyal to the end.

On the face of it, ‘Seussical’ is a story about how Horton the Elephant discovers a race of tiny people called the Who, living on a speck of dust, invisible to everyone but himself, and the trials he goes through to save them. However, scratch the surface and there are some profound, universal themes here – the friendship between Horton and Jojo; both of whom are ‘different’ and feel that they are “alone in the universe”, until they find each   other. And there is Gertrude who longs to be like the other glamorous birds, and thinks that pills will fix her life. The Cat is the Master of Ceremonies, and guides the story, sometimes being  helpful to Jojo, and sometimes causing trouble, but in the end, showing Jojo the power of the imagination….”it’s all in your mind” – “the thinks you can think if you’re willing to try” - “the places you’ll go….set your  hunches free to wander and follow them where they roam”.

‘Seussical’ is a wonderfully lively, colourful show, with moments of real pathos and drama, as well as comedy. The music is particularly appealing and memorable.
