Award winning youth theatre group, Crash Bang Wallop return to the Forum stage in February 2025 with their up-beat production of Shrek the Musical. Based on the well-known animated Dreamworks film of 2001, plus sequels, this parody of fairytales will delight and entertain children and adults alike.
Misanthropic green ogre, Shrek, lives in a swamp after being sent into the world by his parents at the age of 7, with a warning to "watch out for men with pitchforks"! All he wants is to live alone in peace, but finds his swamp invaded by a motley collection of fairy-tale characters made homeless by Lord Farquaad. The only way to get rid of them and regain his swamp is to agree to confront Lord Farquaad. In pursuit of this goal, he meets a wise-cracking and very persistent donkey, a fire-breathing dragon, and Princess Fiona-who is not all she seems!
Through all the jokes, the catchy songs and lively dancing, the references to fairy tales and Disney films, the message comes through strongly-"what makes us special makes us strong", "we have bold and brand new stories to be told", and being different is celebrated.
